COLOR BODIES TAPESTRY
SERVICES: ART DIRECTION | CUSTOM ART | IMPLEMENTATION | MANAGEMENT
Inspired by fiber artist and educator Shelley Socolofsky’s passion for bridging the historic medium of textile production with contemporary craft and culture, we engaged her to create a hand-woven tapestry as part of a larger body of work for Portland’s newest boutique hotel.
Our vision for the art program was one diversity, complexity, accessibility and uniqueness.
Unlike any other piece, the weaving speaks directly (and literally) to the city’s indie alternative landscape. It’s image is of a wrinkled-up issue of The Portland Mercury’s HUMP! Film Festival issue, an annual celebration of creative sexual expression.
The weekly newspaper’s Art Director, Justin "Scrappers" Morrison designed the cover with photography by Jimmy Marble & Amanda Jasnowski.
Color Bodies was awarded first place in the “Pacific Time Zone: Contemporary West Coast Tapestries” exhibition in Corvallis, Oregon prior to reaching it’s home opposite AC Hotel Portland’s chic lounge where it surly inspires lots of conversation.
