DATA VISUALIZATION INSTALLATION

SERVICES: CURATION | CONSULTATION | CUSTOM ART | PROJECT & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

This suspended installation travels three floors through the heart of Capital One’s San Francisco Digital Innovation Lab. We wanted the sculpture to contribute soft lines, flow and delicacy to the angular, industrial space. The opportunity to play with natural and supplemental light, and to lend volume without visual weight also informed our choices.

Client wanted to engage both the mind and the eye.

We partnered with nationally recognized data visitation artist, Adrien Segal who combined inquiry and scientific research with materiality and design to develop a sculpture depicting the allocation of water rights in California.

Our role spanned from artist selection to project management, consulting, budgeting and implementation.

DATA POINTS VISUALIZED

Each ball represents 1 acre-foot of water (326,000 gallons), length correlates to the amount of water each user holds the right to, color represents the type of entity, and each chain strands represents 1,072 a permitted water users in CA.

California Water Rights made the top 100 list for the prestigious 2017 CODA Awards. CODA recognizes outstanding collaborations in Art and Design.
